Special Situations

This content has been updated and merged into our The Condition guide. Please use that page for current, consistent information. The text below is kept for reference; if anything differs, The Condition page and your endocrinologist’s advice take precedence.

Source and scope: Short English summary of our Turkish page on pregnancy, fasting, psychological support and general follow-up. Full version: Özel Durumlar (TR).

Pregnancy

Many women with Addison’s disease have healthy pregnancies. Plan pregnancy with your endocrinologist and obstetrician together; your dose may need adjusting later in pregnancy, vomiting in early pregnancy needs prompt attention, and labour and delivery require a written steroid plan from your team.

Fasting (e.g. Ramadan)

Fasting can cause dehydration, low blood sugar and missed doses, all of which can trigger an adrenal crisis. Our community’s advice is not to fast; Islamic teaching exempts people with health conditions. If you are still considering it, talk to your endocrinologist well in advance.

Psychological support

Living with a chronic condition can be hard. If you notice persistent low mood, anxiety, loss of interest, sleep or appetite changes, or difficulty accepting treatment, ask your doctor about psychological support — it is part of good care.

General follow-up

Keep regular endocrinology appointments, eat regular balanced meals, and ask your doctor which blood tests you need. Do not change your diet in extreme ways or your medicines without medical advice.
