What happened?
ADSHG reports that liquid hydrocortisone (hydrocortisone sodium phosphate) ampoules used in UK adrenal-crisis emergency kits have been permanently discontinued by manufacturer Advanz Pharma. What began as a temporary manufacturing pause has become a permanent market withdrawal.
The charity stresses that this affects people with all forms of adrenal insufficiency, including Addison’s disease, and that emergency-injection preparation needs to reflect the available product.
What is this about? (short)
Liquid hydrocortisone was a ready-to-inject option in emergency kits. The alternative still available in the UK is hydrocortisone sodium succinate powder that must be mixed with sterile water. This article does not teach doses or injection technique; it summarises the ADSHG notice only.
What changes for patients and clinicians?
According to ADSHG, the powder-and-diluent form works for the same emergency purpose; many people already switched during the 2025 supply pause. The group recommends training from GP or endocrine teams and using the correct product codes on prescriptions.
ADSHG also says talks continue with DHSC medicine-supply teams about bringing simpler alternatives (such as Act-O-Vial®) to the UK market; no final outcome is available yet.
Who does this matter for?
People in the UK who carry an emergency hydrocortisone injection kit for adrenal insufficiency, their carers, and clinical teams. Prescribing and product availability in Türkiye differ; this is a UK-sourced update.
Access / country context
ADSHG has shared PIP/EAN codes for the powder form plus training videos. Injection practice days and anxiety-support resources are on the charity site. Licensing and supply policy are UK-specific.
What it means for patients in Türkiye
This is a UK supply and regulation story; it does not automatically change medicines in Türkiye. It does underline keeping an adrenal-crisis kit ready and up to date, with training and a backup plan. Ask your endocrinologist about your own kit and education needs.
Warning: This is a news summary, not dose or treatment advice. Ask your endocrinologist.
